System Upgrade

Construction of the SHWD distribution system began in 1958. Upgrades and additional facilities have been added over the years including Cottage Glen. Much of the system components have exceeded or are reaching the end of their useful life and need to be replaced. SHWD has applied for and has received a $2,500,000 loan from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to facilitate replacing much of this aging system. As costs continued to increase, the district also applied for and received a loan for $600,000 from the Public Works Board (Washington State).
